Tasting Notes

McPherson La Vue Victorian Grenache Rose 2020

The Grenache Rose has a beautiful soft pink hue which alludes to the delicacy of the wine. The nose shows lovely perfumed aromas of fresh rose petals and ripe strawberries teamed with wonderful fruit intensity on the palate.

This pretty light-peach coloured Rosé has the most enticing

bouquet of pomegranate, fresh strawberries and honeysuckle. A juicy, rich palate warmed with flavours of strawberry, shortcake, and focused by well-balanced acidity.

Sweet mandarin notes give way to marshmallow from childhood memories. In the mouth red fruits of blackcurrant and raspberry charm the palate in perfect harmony. A garden of aromas to please the taste buds.

The Maureen Victorian Rose 2020

Strawberry red hues. Mouth feel is rich with lovely natural fruit sweetness on the mid palate while maintaining a fresh, clean acid crispness with lingering flavours of sour cherry and grapefruit. Technical

McPherson La Vue Victorian Grenache Rose 2020

Fruit for the Rose was harvested from our vineyards during April 2017. The juice was run off the skins early in order to extract only the perfect amount of colour and then inoculated and fermented cool. This allowed the retention of the summer berry characters, as well as retaining colour and intensity. Post fermentation the wine was fined, cold stabilised and filtered, ready for bottling. The entire process from juice to bottle was less than six weeks, keeping the wine fresh and vivacious.

Vintage 2017 is best described as a waiting game. The season was very long with fruit slow to ripen and although the urge just to pick it all was there, we had to bide our time until we had optimal flavours and ripeness. Once I made the decision to pick the grapes came in at an orderly pace, although increased yields due to the rain in spring made the juggling game in the winery even more challenging, with tank space at a premium. We made it through our marathon 2017 vintage and are thrilled with the exceptional quality including a number of really extraordinary parcels.

Baby Doll Marlborough Rose 2019

It’s the little things in life that count and it’s the littlest sheep that help make Babydoll wines. Our sustainable collection of wines are pure and intense with plenty of character, just like the Babydoll sheep we named them after.

These tiny sheep keep our vineyards tidy year round because they’re too small to reach the grapes. Using one of nature’s mowers means our wines are better for the environment and taste better too. Celebrate life’s little moments with Babydoll wines.

The growing season in Marlborough started out warm and dry, resulting in even flowering and ultimately balanced vines with the right amount of crop to get them through to harvest. The warm weather continued through Spring and Summer, with periodic rains which kept the vines hydrated throughout the growing season. These warmer conditions also meant harvest started around two weeks earlier than the previous year and resulted in a Rosé that is filled with lifted aromatics and a beautiful concentrated mouthfeel.

The parcels of fruit that created this Rosé were individually harvested over a period of two weeks. The fruit was crushed, destemmed, briefly soaked and then gently pressed. The juice was cold settled for 48hrs then racked prior to a long cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks to capture bright, fresh fruit characters. Each parcel was fermented separately with a range of yeasts to build complexity and structure. Following fermentation the wine was blended, stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.

The Maureen Victorian Rose 2020

Sourced from premium vineyards across Victoria’s premium viticultural sub regions. The fruit was specifically selected for use in a rosé wine by pressing the red grapes as if to make a white wine, minimising the phenolics and retaining the bright clean fruit flavours to ensure a really pure style of wine.

Jardin Des Charmes Coteaux De Beziers IGP Rose 2020

50% Cinsault, 50% Grenache

Dalfarras Victorian Rosato Sangiovese Rose 2019
The Sangiovese is planted on the northern edge of the Toolamba vineyard in some of the best fine sandy loam soil. The variety is notorious for overcropping but careful vineyard management maintained the crop levels to a sensible level from which the production of high quality table wines are produced. Vinification techniques used in Provence have been adopted in making this wine. The fruit is picked earlier than usual followed by minimal processing and regular mixing of the juice in the first four days which adds to the mouthfeel and richness. Fermentation follows with special yeasts commonly used in the South of France and at slightly warmer temperatures than most Australian Rose’ styles which results in greater complexity and retention of freshness and savoury tones.

2019 will be remembered as the hottest summer on record, exacerbated by a dry winter and early spring. The weather bureau had consistently forecast a warmer and drier than normal summer, and this finally eventuated after Christmas. February temperatures were just a fraction above average, but the heat was relentless, and there was no useful rainfall for the month so it remained exceedingly dry. Ripening continued to be steady even though the hot days and warm nights continued, which allowed us to bring in fruit at optimum ripeness. At this early stage, white yields being down on expectations but quality is good with Riesling and Marsanne being the standouts. The reds appear to have fared better yield wise, and have bright fresh fruit, depth of flavour, with rich, full palates. It looks like being a very good year for the reds.
