Penfolds Bin 28 offers a showcase of warm-climate Australian Shiraz – ripe, robust and generously fl avoured. First made in 1959, Bin 28 is named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna Vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend, with the Barossa Valley always well represented.
Full-bodied and multi-dimensional. An assortment of flavours, including blackcurrant, dates, beef and stout pie, dried fig … Expansive – length, depth and weight … reverberating with amplitude and attitude! Mid-palate fruit sweetness, aligned with solid/firm tannins, culminating in a long, lingering finish
95 Points Bob Campbell
Deep, dense purple/red colour. Somewhat shy, closed and quiet to sniff, then concentrated and dense, floral and black fruited, closely packed and tight in the mouth. Excellent wine. Very long carry and superbly structured, with ample supple tannins. Will age superbly.
94 Points James Halliday
Bright colour and personality, this represents excellent value, as the bouquet reveals a depth of dark fruit and complexity of character often seen in more highly regarded bins from Penfolds; bright fruited, layered and long, there is an evenness to this wine that rings true with the house style and will be certain to engage and please avid consumers of the brand.
93 Points Jeremy Oliver
Very dark, deep blackish purple/red colour. Powerfully pungent licorice and blackberry aromas, concentrated, very rich and sumptuous. An opulent style with lots of spice and licorice. Big, long wine, generous if a trifle rustic. A robust Bin 28 and undoubtedly a warm-climate style.
92 Points Huon Hooke
Deep, dense red colour with a purple trim. Plum jam and star anise-like aromas. Deep and lush in the mouth, with a lot of fruit and brightness. Super-ripe and floral, fruit-driven and quite concentrated, with a fine backing of papery tannins.
