Winemaker Fiona Turner, who has collaborated for a number of years with winemaker Matt Thomson in the production of some of New Zealand’s most highly-regarded wines, has won many awards for her exquisite productions. In fact, some of her wines wines have been selected for the ‘Gold List’ at the Sommelier Wine Awards in London.
Fiona Turner has drawn on her considerable experience as a winemaking consultant in Marlborough and Hawkes Bay to identify exceptional vineyard sites. She then blends selected parcels of fruit from these vineyards with fruit from her own vineyard at Blind River in the Awatere Valley, to create the these quality wines.
Pale straw in colour, the 2009 Steamwharf Road Pinot Gris is brimming with gorgeous varietal aromas reminiscent of ripe pears and freshly baked bread.
A nicely weighted, fruit driven palate carries the pear and stonefruit flavours through with a hint of spice. The off-dry finish is countered by a lovely crisp acidity making this a generous, food-friendly wine.
