The 2019 vintage is Steingarten at its best – in a tight, lean, youthful and bright style, coiled up and only hinting at what it has to offer. Lime juice and wet stone aromas are lifted by touches of pepper and spice. In the mouth it is feather-light and silky with concentrated but embryonic fruits underscored by mouth-watering acidity driving a long and fine finish. The wine is delicious now but also has all the foundations for a long life ahead.
It is a bit of an honour when a wine like this arrives at the door. Steingarten is one of the rieslings that put the Eden Valley on the map – the lean, stony soils of the Steingarten vineyard showcasing just how good this region can be for riesling, not only for their complexity but also ability to age well.
94 Point Rated - Bob Campbell The Real Review
Intense, concentrated and youthful riesling with green apple, lime juice, oyster-shell, wet stone and faintly floral flavours, with a backbone of assertive acidity. An impressive wine with obvious potential.
93 Point Rated - Stuart Knox The Real Review
Lime zest and broken slate aromatics. Super tightly-wound, lime and chalk notes run the palate with a serious high line of acidity. With all that intensity there's still balance, so prepare this one for long-term cellaring
93 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review
Light straw-yellow colour, with a restrained, subtle, discreetly lemon-citrusy aroma, faintly floral as well, dried rather than fresh flowers. Intense yet delicate in the mouth, with substantial acidity, and a long long finish which has a trace of astringency. The acidity doesn't fit perfectly, at least not yet at this tender age. It will live long and reward some cellaring.
