DESCRIPTION
We’ve landed an absolute blockbuster sourced from some of the region’s most prestigious and acclaimed vineyards. The Derek Victorian Grampians Shiraz 2009 is an export label that was produced for the international market and has a retail value of around $20 a bottle. This is unheard of value for a cool climate Shiraz from one of the finest regions in Australia.
The Pyrenees & Grampians regions of West Victoria is home to some of Australia’s if not the world's great Shiraz makers such as Dalwhinnie, Bests, Seppelt & Langi Ghiran. James Halliday had this to say recently about Shiraz from this area; “Grampians and Pyrenees, more or less running east west across the centre of Victoria are producing some of the most exciting medium bodied Shiraz’s in Australia, each with its own terrior stamp, but all combing generosity and elegance.”
YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER VICTORIAN SHIRAZ OF THIS CALIBRE ANYWHERE ELSE AT THIS SORT OF PRICE, MARK MY WORDS!
Sourced from vineyards in the premium cooler climate Shiraz regions of Pyrenees & Grampians and combined with warmer regions of North West Victoria. The warmer regions proving immediate fruit weight, a burst of dark fruit, whilst the cooler-climate structured Shiraz of Grampians and Pyrenees provides back pallet with opulent structure, aromas and perfume that linger. A deep red colour. The nose smells of dark fruits but a hint of pantry spice. In the mouth there is a heavy weight of fruit upfront and then it mellows to a smooth, medium bodied, easy finish. But importantly the flavour lingers in the mouth.
According to the esteemed winemaker, the aim of this wine is to provide instant drinkability but at the same time provide elements of spice and complexity that reflects the 'home' from which the wine is made. The warmer of northern Victorian regions providing immediate fruit weight, a burst of dark fruit, whilst the cooler-climate structured Shiraz of Grampians and Pyrenees provides back pallet with opulent structure, aromas and perfume that linger.
