DESCRIPTION
This sensational new release Colonial Shiraz was sourced from the premium sub region Gomersal in the Barossa Valley. The Gomersal vineyards are regarded as one of the finest growing areas in the Barossa and produce some of the best Shiraz in Australia.
This wine just oozes style and class. Deep black colour with a brilliant hue. Barossa Valley Shiraz through and through upfront fruit flavours highlighted by blackberry, mocha and a touch of oak. Intense and highly focused blackberry, mocha, chocolate and liquorice flavours upfront carry the alcohol with ease and then flow through to a long finish with enticingly soft tannins.
Should drink well for the next 10 to15 years.
The single vineyard used for the Explorateur is in the area known as Gomersal in the Barossa Valley. The vineyard has several rolling hills, which have different outlooks, and the soils range from red clay soil over slate to sandy loam. Cropping levels are maintained at two and a half tones to the acre, and the grapes are hand picked. The same equipment that is accorded to our more expensive wines is made available to Explorateur. The grapes are after destemmed, then fermentation is French in approach for up to two thirds of the wine made; the rest is vinified in a more Australian way.
