Medal Winning Adelaide Hills Chardonnay at the Royal Sydney Wine Show 2012!
Pale yellow and green. Powerful and complex yet with amazing purity. The nose initially has upfront fruit aromas of melon, nectarine and fig with a complemented by secondary aromatics of nutty oak. Lovely citrus flavours with an array of fruits including, grapefruit, nectarine and melon developing into a secondary layer of flavours of fig, honey, cedary oak and lees. Tight and focused on the finish with great depth of flavour and a lovely touch of natural fruit acidity.
The 2011 vintage Chardonnay has come up extremely well given the cool and damp conditions the season presented. Grapes were harvested by hand in individual batches to select only the finest quality fruit and minimize losses due to the small tonnes grown. Hand picking occurred in early March from a single vineyard located in the Adelaide Hills region of Oakbank. The wine was crushed and fermented with 20% of the blend receiving oak fermentation with frequent lees stirring. The two parcels were blended together and received 6 months maturation in second and third use French oak barrels then select barrels were blended together and bottled to ensure only the finest wine made the final blend.
Cellaring Potential: Drinking well upon release but will continue to soften and building in body, texture and complexity for the next 4 to 6 years.
Serving Suggestions: Roast chicken or roast pork with a buttery apple sauce.
