DESCRIPTION
Green Point Sauvignon Blanc is a carefully selected blend of high quality fruit from the cool climate vineyards of the Yarra Valley.
Pale straw with vivid green hues. The aroma of this Sauvignon Blanc wine is lifted and lively, displaying varietal passionfruit, guava and citrus characters with hints of newly cut grass. The fresh fruit profile carries through on the palate and is enhanced by juicy natural acidity and interesting layers of spice leading on to a smooth, textured palate. A vibrant, fragrant and fresh wine with classic varietal characteristics of cool climate Sauvignon Blanc.
The fresh tropical and herbaceous aromas of Sauvignon Blanc are complemented by flavours derived from fermentation on partial solids. The wine has an elegant, refreshing and textured palate with a crisp finish.
Sauvignon Blanc grapes were sourced from cool climate Victorian vineyards grown on a variety of soil types ideal for producing distinct Sauvignon Blanc characters. Vineyards are trained to vertical shoot position trellis systems which allow for dappled light throughout the canopy and therefore the development of intense flavours.
The 2009 growing season was preceded by a cool spring. These mild and dry conditions, which extended into December, saw Sauvignon Blanc vines growing balanced canopies, essential for capturing varietal flavours during the ripening phase as well as protecting fruit from the direct rays of the sun. Warm weather was experienced in most Victorian regions during January and early March which resulted in rapid ripening.
The fruit for the 2009 Green Point Sauvignon Blanc harvested in early March when it was displaying optimum intensity of flavour at a balance sugar level. Harvest and pressing occurred in the coolest part of the early morning to ensure the pristine fruit flavours of the vineyards were captured. The juice was held in contact with the lees for a short time to liberate complex flavours and add texture to the wine. The clear juice was racked and inoculated with a yeast strain that would enhance the fruit profile of the wine. Fermentation occurred under the watchful eye of the winemaker in cool stainless steel tanks, after which it was clarified, blended and bottled.
