Award Winner International Wine Challenge 2011
For more than 20 years João Portugal Ramos is linked to Portuguese wines, first as consultant oenologist of well-known wines, and since 1992 as producer. The successes achieved and awards won throughout his career have brought him national and international acclaim as one of the main figures responsible for the development of Portuguese wines during the last decades.
Duorum, in Latin "from two" symbolises the union between two Oenologists who made wine history in Portugal over the last few decades; Joao Portugal Ramos and Jose Maria Soares franco.
A Essencia do Vinho Magazine chose Joao Portugal Ramos as "Wine - Personality of the Year 2010"
Anibal Coutinho, a well-known Portuguese oenologist and wine critic, analyzed the different areas related to wine industry throughout 2010.
For 18 different categories he chose the 10 best, considering João Portugal Ramos “Oenologist of the Year”.
João Portugal Ramos has also been mentioned several times by The New York Times and elected by the German magazine Wein Gourmet as Newcomer of the Year for the range of its wines available in Germany. At the same time J. Portugal Ramos Vinhos has been considered the second best wine company, right after the mythical Penfolds from Australia.
Tons de Duorum is inspired by the bright colours that result from the reflection of the sun on the Duoro River, creating different tones in the vineyards. This wine expresses the 'terroir' of the fantastic Duoro Region, the result of a unique interaction between nature & human effort.
Deep red colour with violet tones. On the nose dominated by strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and prunes, integrated with aromas from aging in the barrels such as spice and nuts. Well balanced acidity, soft and ripe tannins, resulting in an elegant wine.
50% Touriga Franca, 30% Touriga Nacional and 20% Tinta Roriz. The grapes are de-stemmed and crushed followed by a cold maceration. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperature inferior to 28 degrees celcius. "Elevage" in second and third year French and American oak barrels for approximately 6 months.
