Tasting Notes:

Dark ink like colour. Plum, blackberry, forest fruits and some nice hints of oak and black pepper. A full rich palate with abundant fruit flavours of plum, mulberry, blackberry and some underlining hints of mocha, black berry and cedary oak evolve and grow finishing with a burst of nutmeg, oak and a fining grained tannin structure which keeps all the elements harmonious.

Technical:

Made from some of the finest Shiraz vineyards in McLaren Vale with some of the vines aged up to nearly 80 years old, which result in low yields of 2 to 2.5 tonne to the acre. All blocks are pruned and hand picked due to the vines age to avoid damage, which allows the winemaker to carefully select the individual batches at optimum ripeness. A variety of winemaking techniques are used to match each batch of wine perfectly. This means different batches received a combination of open vat fermentation or submerged cap fermenters. Temperatures are generally warmer although some cool fermented vats were included in the final bland. Batches are selected that will show a more generous flavour earlier in its life, with softer tannins, rounder structure and an open display of fruit character. The wine is matured for 20 months using mature barrique oak barrels.

It's always been a very reliable consistently smooth deep red and the pricing suits my pocket very well. Most of my friends have never heard of it so it goes down very well as something new and different at dinner parties!

Rated 4 out of 5 by The Headmaster from Quality Mclaren Vale I have bought two or three dozen of the last three vintages of this quality McLaren vale Shiraz. Although not as tanniny or jammy as its big brother, the Songlines Estate shiraz this has the same quality but a smoother style. Purple/black in appearance with chocolate, rich berry and liquorice flavours. A big full-bodied wine with wonderfully generous flavours of plum, red berry, chocolate, liquorice and a touch of spice which adds great depth and complexity. The oak works hand in hand with the finely grained tannins providing a great backbone and persistent finish that goes on and on.
