Tasting Notes:

The wine has abundant lifted, perfumed character and a hint of spiciness on the nose. It is a light, well-balanced wine with good depth of flavour that makes it ideal.

Technical:

The MMS 2007 is a stunning blend of 3 grape varieties and WOW, what a wine to have. This wine is succulent and engaging. Bruising bold fruit flavours awesomely combine to execute winemaking perfection. Mataro (43%), Shiraz (37%) and Malbec (20%) blend into a seamless swirl that showcases the complementary nature of the flavour profiles of these three grape varieties. The fruit came from Bass Hill Vineyard, the Olssen family's vineyard in the southern part of the Clare Valley. The individual varietal wines were aged in French oak for seventeen months.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Howard from A wine with interesting character This 2007 unusual blend of Mataro, Shiraz and Malbec is showing no sign of age. Big dark cherry flavours - stands up well with food - even a powerful vintage Parmesan cheese.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Berry Bob from Interesting and unusual palate, a wine for dining Mataro and Malbec bring unusual flavours to this wine. Not just another big Aussie red. Recommend with pasta and meat dishes, or cheese, to complement the earthy tannins of the wine. A wine with a difference, maybe reminiscent of the Italian wines that aim to complement dining rather than compete with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Frenchozzie from Interesting and challenging I bought a case of this wine a couple of months ago largely because of its Malbec content. I liked it a lot and felt that it had a French thinness to it which complemented a lot of the winter dishes I make. It disappeared so quickly that I bought another case. It takes a while to open up and is better decanted. It challenges the heavier winter dishes, not by trying to underwrite them but by having a thinner determination. Definitely a very good drop because the wine has character and provides an excellent point of contrast for tastes which are substantial and complex.
