Making a broad and varied range of traditional and newer varieties and styles. Moana Park is a boutique winery with a contemporary outlook. A big feature of the winery is their philosophy of using minimal intervention to make wine as naturally as possible to be low allergen.
Organic and sustainable vineyard practices and the least usage of chemicals is the basis of making the wines, which are also accredited suitable for vegetarian. Deep black cherry in colour with a purple hue the nose is a fruit driven style displaying spicy berry and fruit characters with notes of pepper, redcurrant and subtle oak. The palate is soft and medium bodied with elegant fruit and gentle tannins with a smooth finish.
The must was inoculated and fermented on skins for between 10-25 days being gently hand plunged up to four times daily. Some batches were left on skins for up to 30 days after fermentation. The grapes were pressed and most of the pressings were combined with the freely drained wine.
RATED FOUR STARS - RAYMOND CHAN, SEPTEMBER 2013
100% Syrah from the Gimblett Road vineyard fermented to 12.8 alc.The wine spending 10-25 days on skins and given oak stave contact. Very dark deep black hued purple ruby colour. The nose is full open and up front with ripe primary black berry and boysenberry fruits along with spicy plums, black pepper and lifted florals growing with good intensity. Medium bodied, bright, fresh and plush flavours of black fruits, boysenberries and pepper form a juicy, rich palate. The mouthfeel is supple with gentle tannin extract and fresh from lively acidity. The wine is harmonious and balanced in texture with succulent fruitiness the feature. The flavours have plenty of energy and drive and lead to a gently finish with Asian spices and black florals. This is a soft plush and succulently fruity Syrah with a mellow harmonious mouthfeel.
