Jardim Do Bomfim is a boutique producer sourcing grapes from a selection of growers and vineyards across South Australia’s premium viticultural regions including McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek, Adelaide Hills and the Barossa Valley.
Here is a brief note on this wine from one of our most respected industry veterans after tasting this delightful shiraz...
"This wine is a delight with bright red colour tinged with cherry. The bouquet is perfumed with rosehip fruits and briary blackberry notes leading to softly stated oak. Medium bodied in palate structure, there is a velvety richness to this wine underpinned by velvety oak tannins and balanced minerality. Mocha, Summer preserves and earthy complexity present this wine as the perfect accompaniment to all barbecue meats and vintage mature cheeses. Whilst drinking beautifully now, short term bottle maturation will reward you with added complexity to the middle palate."
Intense crimson with youthful purple hues. Lifted fruit flavours of mulberry and lusciously ripe blackberries with a beautiful underlying touch of plum and complexity from tannin and oak. Generous mouth filling palate with rich fruit flavours of intense berry and cassis flavours which continue to develop and are complemented with soft fine tannins and a wonderful touch of well-integrated oak.
Cellaring Potential: A wonderfully approachable wine now although it should continue to develop in the bottle for the next 6 to 8 years.
The grapes used were sourced from a single vineyard near the centre of the Barossa Valley from one of the regions most iconic vingerons. In the second week of March whole bunches of flavour ripe Shiraz were machine harvested, then gently crushed and naturally fermented in open fermenters for eight days, hand plunged twice a day, before going into new (25%) and older French & American Oak Hogheads to finish fermentation. After 14 months maturation and a racking in the same oak, we bottled 2009 Shiraz with minimal filtration, to capture the essence of the vineyard.
Perfectly matched to rich flavoured foods such as meats, stews or hard cheeses but definitely best to enjoy with good friends.
