Tasting Notes:

Regular pump overs prior to careful basket pressing have made an elegant, medium bodied wine with lifted aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and cracked pepper supported by spicy, dark berry fruits on the palate.

The extensive finish is framed by elegant, fine grained tannins from eighteen months maturation in a combination of new and seasoned American and French oak barriques and hogsheads.

Technical:

The grapes were destemmed, but not crushed, and spent seven days on their skins in open fermenters to more gently extract colour, flavours and tannins. Chateau Tanunda was established in 1890 and is the site of the very first vines planted in the Barossa in the1840s as well as the Valley s first winery.

The Chateau is an Australian heritage icon whose grand buildings, magnificent gardens and prime vineyards are owned by the Geber family who continue a tradition of fine winemaking spanning three centuries.

Fruit for our Maria Street Shiraz comes from a single vineyard on the banks of the North Para River at the heart of the Barossa Valley's renowned Tanunda.

Accolades & Awards:

LISA PERROTTI BROWN (ROBERTPARKER 2012)

"Deep garnet purple in color  the 2011 Maria Street Shiraz is beautifully scented of ripe blackberries black plums and violets with nuances of Provence herbs and freshly ground black pepper. Medium bodied and elegantly fruited on the palate, it has a refreshing acid line and medium level of velvety tannins finishing long and peppery.”
