This is an elegant wine that is medium bodied. It has lifted aromas of blackcurrant, redcurrant, and spice on the velvety smooth palate with hints of cedar and mint. The extensive finish is framed by elegant fine grained tannins from eighteen months maturation in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barriques and hogsheads.
Fruit for our Diagonal Road Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a single vineyard in the renowned Ebenezer sub-region to the North of the Barossa Valley. The grapes were de-stemmed, but not crushed and spent seven days on their skins in open fermenters to gently extract colour, flavour and tannin. Château Tanunda was established in 1890 and is the site of the very first vines planted in the Barossa in the1840's as well as the Valley's first winery. The Château is an Australian heritage icon whose grand buildings, magnificent gardens and prime vineyards are owned by the Geber family who continue a tradition of fine winemaking spanning three centuries.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Robert Parker, 2012)
"From a single vineyard up in the Ebenezer sub-district, the 2011 Diagonal Road Cabernet Sauvignon offers a medium to deep garnet-purple colour and aromas of ripe cassis, fresh blackberries and red currants with touches of Mediterranean herbs and tree bark. Medium-bodied and quite taut in the mouth, it offers just enough fruit offset by a medium level of chewy tannins and crisp acidity, finishing long."
