Chateau le Grand Moulin "Grand Reserve" Cotes de Blaye 2008 is our newest Bordeaux on offer. We associate the excellence of this wine with the expertise of the Vinalies Internationales. The surest guarantee of credibility is that Vinalies Internationales invites over 100 judges from all over the world. Their mission is to assess some 3,000 samples submitted to their taste buds, and appraise the specifics of the terroir they are grown on, and to reward the world’s finest wines and bring them all the recognition they deserve – that is the aim of this competition set up and organised in Paris by the Union des Œnologues de France.
Bordeaux wines that pass a set of seven criteria regulating grape varieties, viticultural and winemaking practices, yields per acre and alcoholic content are allowed to use the phrase Appellation Controlee (AOC or AC) on their labels.
The Grand Moulin Estate is located 50 kms north of Bordeaux in St. Aubin de Blaye in the heart of the Côtes de Blaye wine region. The entire estate is within the Côtes de Blaye appelation which stretches 35 km along the right bank of the Gironde. The vineyards extend over rocky hillsides which allow for natural drainage as well as a reheating of the ground convenient in a good maturation of grapes. We use traditional Bordeaux grape vines for all our wines. For the red, the so-called "black Merlot" which gives a firm fruity wine for the taste and the "Cabernet Sauvignon" for tannin and aging.
The French initiated the Appellation d'Origine Controlee system in 1935 as a means of safeguarding the more quality-conscious winemakers, vineyards, and areas from unethical producers who were taking advantage of the better-known names.
